One crystal-clear resiliency factor that consistently emerged was that the characteristics necessary to bounce back from the incident very well matched the characteristics of a successful marathoner:
1) A belief in Something bigger than one's self that motivates the hard work of recovery. Marathoners must begin with the finish line in mind.
2) Healthy practices for coping with pain, stress, and difficulty. Marathoners study and apply good practices to their training and their races.
3) Involvement in healthy, supportive interpersonal relationships. Marathoners have training peer groups and are encouraged by the cheers of spectators.
It was and is an awful tragedy.....but they are uniquely qualified to bounce back. We will all cheer for them next year.
Bob VandePol
President
Crisis Care NetworkBob VandePolhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04727467234489161326noreply@blogger.com
